I am present, focused, but separated from the world
An empty, dark space between touch, taste, and feel
All slightly dulled but emotion powerful, intense
Lies in my head our loud, playing on repeat,

Living life as an addict is a balancing act
The unresolved trauma within makes my gate unsteady
I’m working on getting in touch with my inner child
I want to hold compassion for this beautiful baby boy
I imagine my inner child as a wounded, feeble, adorable, baby bird
I cautiously approach
The bird is ready to fly
But can’t, poised to flee
Approaching the bird is a balancing act
A balance between patience, directness, firmness, and care
I want to hold my inner child
I have you now, there is no need to worry
I’ll help you mend your broken wing so you’ll be ready to fly
